Verified by Visa
A: Verified by Visa is a global authentication service. It provides you, the cardholder, with a unique password and ensures that only you, the true cardholder, may complete an Internet transaction. Verified by Visa improves card security online.
Q: How does Verified by Visa work?
A: The Verified by Visa password protects your online transactions in
the same way you use a signature at a face-to-face merchant or a PIN
when using an ATM.
Once you have registered, there are three simple steps to
using Verified by Visa. These are:
1. Select the goods or services you want from an online store that
participates in Verified by Visa and proceed to the payment page
2. Enter your Visa card number and the online store will check with the
financial institution that issued your Visa card to check if it is
enrolled with Verified by Visa
3. Enter your password to confirm your identity and payment is all done
in a flash.
It is this simple.
Q: Can I register with my existing Visa card or do I
need to apply for a new one?
A: You can register any Visa card in Verified by Visa as long as the
financial institution that issued your card offers this service. The
majority of major financial institutions now offer Verified by Visa
services.
Q: Can I register more than one Visa card?A: Yes, you can register all of your Visa cards as long as your Visa card issuer offers Verified by Visa.
Q: How do I register my Visa card?
A: You need to register for the service through the financial
institution that issued your Visa card. You can check on their website
or contact a member of their staff for more information.
Q: How do I know if my Visa card issuer offers
Verified by Visa?
A: Please check with your card issuer, visit your local Visa website or
go to www.visa-asia.com/verified for the latest list of financial
institutions that participate in Verified by Visa.
Q: My spouse and I both have the same card number.
How does Verified by Visa work for the two of us?
A: You can each register separately and create your own passwords.
Please note that once a Visa account is registered with Verified by
Visa, all cardholders will need to register and create their own
passwords to shop at participating online stores.
Q: Can I register my non-Visa payment cards with
Verified by Visa?
A: Check with your individual financial institution.
Q: After I register, how long does it take for
Verified by Visa to become active in my card?
A: The added protection of Verified by Visa is available as soon as
your financial institution confirms that your registration is
successful. You may begin shopping at participating stores immediately.
For a full list of merchants that participate in Verified by Visa,
please visit your local Visa website or www.visa-asia.com/verified. You
will also find a Verified by Visa online shopping demo at these
websites.
Q: Do I need any special equipment or software on my
computer?
A: All you need is an Internet connection and Internet Explorer,
Netscape or AOL browser software version 4.0 or above. To find out if
your browser is compatible, go to the “Help” menu
in the upper right of your browser and select the
“About” option. It should tell you what version is
installed on your computer.
Q: What is a Personal Assurance Message?
A: When you register for Verified by Visa, you may be asked to create a
Personal Assurance Message. When you pay online, always look for this
Personal Assurance Message to ensure that it is your card issuer that
is authenticating you.
Q: What if I forget my password?
A: If you forget your password, you may be provided with a hint to help
you remember it, or you may need to contact the customer service staff
of the financial institution that issued your Visa card to reset your
password. Check with your Visa card issuer for more details.
Q: If I suspect someone has stolen my password or
used it to make fraudulent purchases, what should I do?
A: Contact your Visa card issuer immediately.
Q: Can I get the benefit of Verified by Visa security
at online stores that are not participating in the service?
A: Unfortunately not. However, most major online stores do participate
in the service. In the meantime, if an online store you trust is not
yet participating, use common sense and follow the safe shopping tips
on your local Visa website or at www.visa-asia.com/verified.
Q: I have Internet access on my mobile phone, can I
use Verified by Visa through it?
A: While Verified by Visa can be used over mobile devices with
connections to the Internet, only some Visa card issuers are offering
this service at the present time. Please check directly with your Visa
card issuer.
Q: What should I do if I suspect myself of disclosing
my personal and account related information to a fraudulent site?
A: Please report this by sending an email to ReportEmailFraud@visa.com.
